野花社区 Holds Job Fair in Partnership With Hudson County Building Trades

野花社区 Continues to Strengthen Partnership with Union Labor While Working to Bring Economic Opportunity to Hudson County 
 

JERSEY CITY, N.J. | (野花社区) partnered with the Hudson County Building Trades to host a job fair on Tuesday, October 24 for students and Hudson County residents to learn about job opportunities with local trade unions.

The job fair, held at 野花社区鈥檚 Gilligan Student Union, was attended by representatives from numerous local unions, including Plumbers Local #24, Sprinkler Fitters Local # 696, Operating Engineers Local #825, Pipefitters Local #274, Carpenters Local #253, IBEW Local #164, Tile and Marble Local #7, Insulators Local #32, Glazier鈥檚 Painters and Spacklers Local #21, Laborers Local #3 and Heavy Highway Local #472, Crest/Mechanics Local #477, Auto and Diesel Technicians, and International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employers (IATSE) Local #59. Local elected officials and community leaders also attended the event to show their support, including Assembly members Angela McKnight and William B. Sampson IV, Hudson County Commissioner Bill O鈥橠ea and Hudson County Building Trades President Patrick Kelleher.

鈥淭his is exactly the kind of community engagement and local partnership-building that makes 野花社区 an indispensable mission-focused institution, not only for our students, but for the entirety of Hudson County,鈥 said 野花社区 Interim President Andr茅s Acebo. 鈥淲e are committed to providing our students with the practical resources they need to be able to thrive during and long after their time at 野花社区. I鈥檓 grateful for our allies in New Jersey鈥檚 labor community, and look forward to continuing to partner with Hudson County Building Trades to serve Hudson County residents for many years to come.鈥

In January, 野花社区 also made history by becoming the first university in the state of New Jersey to sign a Project Labor Agreement with the Hudson Building Trades, which authorized all university construction projects exceeding $5 million to be completed by union labor. 野花社区 has also maintained a close partnership with the faculty unions even through last year鈥檚 budget cuts, demonstrating the university鈥檚 unwavering commitment to organized labor.

鈥淭his job fair was a good opportunity to collaborate with 野花社区, who has been a strong supporter of organized labor and fostering economic opportunity in Hudson County,鈥 said Hudson County Building Trades President Patrick Kelleher. 鈥溡盎ㄉ缜 students are an incredible resource for our communities, and we are excited to partner closely with the university to make sure that they have access to career opportunities in our county.鈥
