The Ò°»¨ÉçÇø New Pathways to Teaching in NJ Alternate Route program has produced thousands of teachers over the years. Amy Garcia was once such person who graduated from Ò°»¨ÉçÇø in 2004 with a bachelor’s in English: Creative Writing. Garcia recalled "My professors were extremely knowledge in their course contents, personable and kind. My student experience was extremely positive and led me to return in 2016 when I decided to pursue my dream of becoming an American Sign Language teacher."
To become a teacher Garcia enrolled in the New Jersey Pathways to Teaching Program (NPTNJ). Ò°»¨ÉçÇø has designed New Pathways, now 100% online, in a manner that convenient for full-time teachers. As Garcia said "I was able to continue working full-time, go to school to obtain my teaching certification while being a full-time mom. I recommend the NPTNJ to applicants because it is designed for the working adult."
After completing New Pathway Garcia obtained her standard teaching certificate and has been employed at Jefferson Township High School. She holds standard teaching certifications in 13 states and is working towards 20 more! Having a standard certificate in American Sign Language has opened opportunities that have allowed me to change lives.
